What is packet loss?
Packet loss is the share of data packets that never arrive at their destination. Even 1–2% loss causes stutter in calls, rubber-banding in games and slow, uneven downloads.
How is the test performed?
We send a burst of 40 small HTTPS probes to a global edge network and count how many complete successfully, together with their latency and jitter.
What causes packet loss?
Common causes are Wi-Fi interference, damaged or unshielded cables, a congested ISP link, an overloaded router, or a faulty splitter on cable connections.
How can I reduce packet loss?
Test again over Ethernet, move closer to the access point, switch to the 5 GHz band, replace old cables, and reboot the modem. If wired loss persists, contact your ISP with these results.
