1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies — local storage, session storage and pixels — do much the same job. SpeedExact uses a deliberately small set of them, and the speed test itself works without any advertising cookies at all.
2. Categories we use
Strictly necessary
These keep the site usable and cannot be switched off. They remember your consent choice, your interface language and whether you prefer dark or light mode. They are stored in your browser's local storage under the speedexact.* and nsh.* prefixes and are never transmitted to us.
Functional
Your recent speed test results are saved on your device so the Results page can show a history and trend. This data never leaves your browser, and clearing your history on the Results page removes it permanently.
Advertising and measurement
With your consent, Google AdSense may set cookies to serve advertising and limit how often you see the same ad. Google may use a cookie such as the DoubleClick ID to personalise ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can review and change your Google ad settings at any time in Google My Ad Center, and read Google's own explanation in the Google privacy & terms notice for partner sites.
3. Third parties involved
The speed test measures throughput against Cloudflare's public measurement endpoints, so Cloudflare receives your IP address as a normal part of any internet request. Network information such as your ISP and approximate city is looked up through a public IP information service. Advertising is served by Google. We do not sell data to anyone, and we do not operate a cross-site tracking profile of our own.
4. How to control cookies
Choosing Essential only in our consent banner prevents non-essential storage. Every major browser also lets you block or delete cookies for individual sites — see the privacy settings in Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge. Blocking strictly necessary storage will reset your language and theme on every visit but will not stop the speed test.
To change a decision you already made, clear this site's data in your browser and reload; the consent banner will appear again.
5. Changes to this policy
We update this page whenever we add or remove a technology that stores data on your device. Material changes are reflected in the "last updated" date above.
