What is bufferbloat?
Bufferbloat happens when your router or modem queues too much traffic before sending it. Speeds still look fine, but latency spikes whenever the line is busy, which breaks video calls, cloud gaming and voice chat.
How does this test measure it?
We first measure your idle latency, then saturate the connection with parallel downloads and measure latency again. The difference between the two numbers is your bufferbloat.
What is a good result?
Under 30 ms of added latency is excellent, 30–60 ms is good, 60–150 ms is fair and anything above 150 ms will be clearly noticeable during calls and gaming.
How do I fix bufferbloat?
Enable Smart Queue Management (SQM, fq_codel or cake) on your router, set the shaper slightly below your real line speed, and avoid stacking a second router behind the ISP box.
