Why does DNS speed matter?
Every new domain on a page needs a DNS lookup before anything can load. A resolver that is 40 ms slower adds that delay to the first visit of every site you open.
Which resolvers are benchmarked?
Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), Google (8.8.8.8), Quad9 (9.9.9.9) and OpenDNS (208.67.222.222), each queried over DNS-over-HTTPS from your own connection.
Should I always use the fastest one?
Speed is one factor. Quad9 also blocks known malicious domains, Cloudflare emphasises privacy, and OpenDNS offers content filtering. Pick the balance you want.
How do I change my DNS server?
Set it once on your router so every device inherits it, or change it per device in the network adapter settings on Windows, macOS, Android or iOS.
