What is a good internet speed in 2026?

A “good” speed depends entirely on what happens on your line at the same time. A single 4K stream needs roughly 25 Mbps; a video call needs about 4 Mbps up and down; cloud backups will happily use everything you give them.

As a practical baseline: 100 Mbps download suits most two-to-four person households, 300 Mbps is comfortable for heavy 4K and large game downloads, and gigabit mainly helps when several people transfer big files at once.

Upload matters more than people expect. Remote work, streaming and cloud sync all depend on it, and asymmetric cable plans often cap upload at a small fraction of download.

Latency is the other half of the story. A 50 Mbps fiber line with 8 ms ping will feel faster in daily use than a 500 Mbps connection with 90 ms ping and heavy jitter.
